Art of this time period, in any place or at any time is typified by a focus away from naturalism to conceptualism.  Realistic details are lost in favor of adding mystical spiritual elements.

Islamic art was forbidden to depict the human image, so beautiful, elaborate designs and patterns were employed in their architecture, painting, and tapestries.

 

Early Christian came first, then spread across the whole Roman Empire with Constantine’s Edict of Milan.  After the Roman Empire split east and west, the Eastern Roman Empire became dominated with Byzantine art.  Later in the 600s A.D. Islam arose, challenging the power and authority of Christianity and leaving its mark in art.
