Bridging OHS Tradition Into The New Building

Dear Orem High Patrons:

If you attended or worked at Orem High, or if you have parents, grandparents, friends or neighbors with Orem High connections, then please read on.  As you likely know, Orem High will be rebuilt over the next two years, and we want to do all that we can to preserve the honored tradition of the old school in the new facility.

For example, before they tear down the “A” gym, we are going to cut out the “O” at Center court, and the two OHS tigers on the court surface. We plan to mount these items in key locations in the new Fieldhouse.

In our first phase we are looking specifically for sports memorabilia from the original Lincoln High to the present.  This summer we plan to turn the entrance to the field house into a museum for Orem High Athletics.  (Similar to what American Fork High School did in their cafeteria—if you’ve had a chance to see that) Old letterman jackets, cheer uniforms, sports equipment, trophies, pictures, signed balls from championship teams, and any other interesting items of memorabilia are welcome.  We plan to make a small metal plate noting who donated the item and what year they graduated/taught, etc.  If at any time the original owner wants the item back, they can come and get it, but in the meantime, we would display it in a way that would honor the individual, and celebrate the great history of Orem High.

In the second phase we would look at ways to preserve memories and history of all other areas of the new school.  For example, we plan to scan photos from the old yearbooks and scrapbooks, and have them appropriately displayed in the new building.  There are a lot of possibilities, but we want to start collecting memorabilia and planning now, because if we don’t, things will get too crazy when it is time to actually move to the new building.

Therefore, if you, or anyone you know  has  great pieces of OHS memorabilia, or historical artifacts that would contribute to a project like this, we ask that you allow us to display it for you and for the school.  (Or ask those OHS connections that you know to contact us) Please contact Annette Newsom, Joe Jensen, or Joel Perkins at 227-8765 to set a time for us to come pick it up, or you can bring it to the School.  We’ll catalogue the item and get your name and year of graduation/teaching service so we can make the appropriate name plate.  We appreciate the community’s efforts on our behalf as we try to maintain the Orem High tradition in our new facility.
